5 killed, 41 hurt in road accidents

DINAJPUR, Feb 23 (UNB): Two people were killed and 25 others injured as a bus plunged into a ditch at Barsha in Birganj upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Shoma Rani Das,15 of the upazila and Manata Rani Rai,55, of Kaharol upazila.
Police said the Birganj bound bus fell into the ditch when it driver was trying to give side to a motorbike around 9 am, leaving its two passengers dead on the spot and 25 other injured.
The injured were rushed to Birganj upazila health complex.
BSS reports from Tangail: Two persons were killed in separate road accidents on Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Mirzapur upazila here today.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Mannan, 54, of Jogi Kofa village and Moni Rishi, 45, of Mirzapur bazaar here.
Officer in charge of Mirzapur Thana Golam Mosthafa told BSS that the first accident occurred when a pick-up van (locally made vehicle) hit Mannan while he was crossing the road in Gorai Bus Stand area, leaving him dead on the spot.
Another accident occurred when a pick-up van hit Probir Moni Rishi, 45, at Mirzapur Bazaar as its driver lost control over the vehicle. Probir sat by the side of the road and died on the spot.
A report from Comilla says: The headmaster of a local high school was killed and another injured in a road accident in Purba Chandina area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway under Chandina upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Kaikobad, 48, headmaster of Keronkhal High School of the upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka- bound pick-up van rammed a rickshaw in the area around 10am, leaving rickshaw passenger Kaikobad dead on the spot and injured rickshaw puller. The injured was admitted to Chandina upazila health complex.
UNB reports from Jessore: At least 15 students of a school were injured as a picnic bus plunged into a ditch at Kashempur in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia district on Saturday.
Witnesses said the bus carrying 37 students of Bagharpara Pilot High School of Jessore fell into a roadside ditch when its driver lost control over the steering while moving towards Shelaidaha of Kushtia for picnic, leaving 15 students injured.
Kumarkhali thana officer-in-charge Lutfar Rahman said the injured students were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital and Kumarkhali Health Complex.
Earlier on February 15, seven schoolchildren drowned when a bus carrying them home from a picnic plunged into a pond in Chougachha upazila of Jessore.
