500 erosion victims get relief in Fulchhari

GAIBANDHA, Oct 12 (BSS): A total of 500 river erosion victims of Fulchhari upazila in the district received 13.50 tonnes of rice and Taka one lakh as relief from the government to minimize their woes.

The rice and cash were distributed to the beneficiaries through upazila administration with the involvement of local government body.

According to sources, with the fall of water level in the river of Brahmaputra, erosion had taken serious turn at different places of Kanchipara, Urya, Gozaria, and Fulchhari unions of Fulchhari upazila last few days.

Due to erosion, hundreds of families living on the river bank became homeless and took shelter on the nearby embankment and other safer places.

To mitigate their sufferings, the government stood beside the river eroded families and distributed rice and cash among them.

Assistant commissioner and acting district relief and rehabilitation officer Nazmul Huda said as many as 13.50 tonnes of rice and Taka one lakh were distributed so far.

On Friday, Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament and local lawmaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah gave rice and cash to 323 river eroded families of Gozaria union of the upazila on behalf of the government.

Of them, 300 beneficiary families each got 30 kgs of rice and 23 families each received Taka 2,000
