PIROJPUR, Apr 20 (BSS): The re-construction works of two-storey six primary schools-cum-cyclone shelters were completed in coastal upazila of Matbaria here recently.
The six primary educational institutions, which were completely damaged by the "Super Cyclone Sidr" in 2007, will now also accommodate about 3,000 people during any natural disaster like cyclone.
The reconstruction works of those schools were finished recently at a cost of about Taka 30 crore under the supervision of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). The whole money was donated by a Saudi millionaire through Islamic Development Bank (IDB), a Jeddah based bank, for infrastructure development of the schools.
A formal key handing ceremony was held in the Matbaria upazila headquarters on Friday where IDB programme coordinator in Bangladesh Dr MH Salem, project official Richard Long Ford, Upazila Nirbahi Officer(UNO) Ahasan Habib, officials concerned, headmasters and local elite were present on the occasion.
