70 acres of T-Aman seedbed set up in Jamalpur

Farming goes on in Manikganj

JAMALPUR, Aug 06 (BSS): Agriculture Depart-ment has set up 70 community based Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) seedbed in the district to offset the losses of seed by the recent flood.

According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, Bangladesh Agricul-ture Development Corporation supplied 21 tonnes of T-Aman seeds for setting up the seedbed at farmers' level.

The office said farmers prepared T-Aman seed bed on 12 acres on land in Jamalpur Sadar, 20 acres in Sarishabari, 10 acres in Melandaha,10 acres in Bakshiganj, 7 acres in Madarganj, six acres in Islampur and five acres in Dewanganj upazila.

The office said 300-kilogram seeds were given among the community based farmers free of cost for setting up one acre of seedbed.

Besides, the farmers were also given other costs like tillage, sowing of seed and plucking seedling.

Additional Deputy Director, DAE, Md. Nuruzzaman said small and marginal farmers who lost their seed by the recent flood will get T-Aman seedlings free of cost from the community based seedbed.

In Manikganj, cultivation of T-Aman paddy is going on full swing in all seven upazilas of the district.

Most of the cultivators have already completed the preparing of lands for transplantation of T- Aman rice, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said.
