A bumper wheat yield on way in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Feb 24: Farmers of Chuadanga district are expecting a bumper production of wheat this season due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agro-inputs in the district.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said they had set a target to bring a total of 6050 hectares of land under wheat cultivation this year with production target of 18,150 metric tonnes of wheat in the district.
Of them 200 hectares of land have been brought under the wheat cultivation in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 4000 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 850 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 1000 hectares in Jibannagar Upazila
DAE had provided training among the farmers and advised them for using organic fertilisers before the wheat cultivation. BADC supplied good quality of wheat seeds among the farmers, said DAE officials.
Daud Mondal, a farmer of Asmankhali village under Alamdanga Upazila said "spending Tk 13,000, I have cultivated wheat on two bighas of land this season. I am expecting Tk 10,000 to 12,000 as profit from the produce."
Another farmer of Goespur village under Jibannagar Upazila Sultan Sheikh said he has cultivated wheat on three bighas of his land and he is hoping for a bumper output of the crop.
