CHANDPUR, Jan 02: There is no road in a village named Kathalia under Paschim Shahadevpur union in Kochua Upazila.
As a result, thousands of men, women and children of the remote village have been suffering much for the last five decades.
They have to use the aisles of the muddied and kutcha farm lands to go to markets, offices and hospitals in Kochua town and come back home facing the same troubles.
Their sufferings mount during the rainy season and flood when the farm lands and village remain under water for months. This timethere remains no alternative to using country boats to move to Upazila town and other
places, said Madhob Sarker (60), a fish vendor, and his other colleagues - Robi Das (55) and Shankar Das (56). They also said that though over fifty years have passed since independence, no road has been built for the convenience of the villagers in this remote village.
Local UP Chairman Alamgir Hossain said that despite his efforts, the owners of agri lands do not want to sacrifice their lands for a road. But he will again try to persuade and convince the villagers to sacrifice lands for constructing a road.
While talking to this correspondent LGED Upazila Engineer Abdul Alim Lytton said he
would visit the village soon and will report it to the higher authorities concerned for government allocation for a road in this village.
