The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday sued a councillor of Teknaf municipality in Cox's Bazar for accumulating illegal wealth and laundering of Tk 43.15 million.
According to the commission, councillor Md Maniruzzaman, 47, earned the money through corruption and bribe by abusing his power as a public representative.
The case was filed with ACC's Cox's Bazar office by its deputy assistant director Nasrullah Hossain as per sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012, and section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
After primary inquiry, the ACC found evidence of graft against Mr Manir and asked him to submit the wealth statement which he submitted in May 15, 2019.
In the statement, he mentioned Tk 35.53 million worth of wealth in his name though the commission in its investigation found a total of Tk 43.15 million worth of money and property in his name.
