Acute manpower shortage hampers Magura 250-bed Hospital activities

MAGURA, Feb 20: The regular activities of the Magura 250-bed Hospital has been disrupted for long due to manpower shortage and other problems.

Sources said inadequate number of doctors and other staffs, shortage of ambulance and other infrastructure problem have hampered the image of the hospital badly.

The hospital now runs with 22 doctors. Four doctor posts have been lying vacant since long. One doctor is on OSD while another one does not come to the hospital after joining.

Among 88 posts of nurses, seven posts are lying vacant, sources further said.

Besides, among 25 posts of MLSS, nine posts still vacant. Only 15 cleaners are on duty among 21.Only two security guards are working in the hospital.

Among three ambulances, two are out of order. The hospital has six toilets of which three are usable.

Rizia Parveen of Nanduali village under Magura Sadar said brokers were forcing the patients to admit themselves to some private clinics and diagnosis centres.

They create panic among the patients saying that doctors at government-run hospitals do not provide proper treatment, she added.

Amena Khatun of Amuria village of Sadar upazila said she admitted her baby in child ward at the hospital. There is no toilet in the ward.

Superintendent of the hospital Munshi Md Sadullah said, "I have informed my superior authority about the present situation of the hospital. I have already deployed police on the hospital compound to free the health centre from the menace of brokers.
