Acute traffic congestion makes Pabna civic life miserable

PABNA, May 26: Acute traffic congestion is seriously affecting the daily life of the townspeople here.

Unauthorised shops on footpaths, haphazard parking of motorised vehicles on roadsides and plying of a large number of unlicensed auto bikes and rickshaws create unbearable traffic jam on the roads of Pabna town every day.

Major portions of the footpaths are occupied by the street vendors and shoppers defying the traffic rules.

Goods kept in front of the shops on roadsides for sell and old vehicles kept on roadsides for repairing also interrupt smooth traffic movement on the town roads, especially the road towards educational institutions starting from bus stand. Most of the time the road is found blocked by auto bikes and rickshaws and some unscrupulous bus and truck drivers, mechanics and battery-run three wheelers.

Sometimes, the tailback becomes so large that the traffic police find it difficult to bring the situation under control. It goes without saying that the traffic department has totally failed to keep the area under their control.

Besides, some private curs and motorcycles are parked at hotel and shops bazaar crossing which is the busiest area of the town. Some trucks are also found everyday unloading goods causing unbearable congestion for hours in front of town's at the Boro Bazaar.

As a result, economic activities in Pabna markets are facing untold setback and people from all walks of life such as traders, students and executives waste a lot of working hours daily.

Due to waywardness of drivers, mechanics, rickshaw, the students of Pabna Central Girls' High school, Pabna Government Boys School, Government Women College and Government Girls' High School, Ideal Girl's High school find it hard to reach their respective institutions.     motiarfe@gmail.com
