PABNA, July 30: Vehicle owners, labourers and farmers in Pabna are being cheated by adulterated mobil and lubricants being sold by unscrupulous traders in the district, according to sources.
Baby Islam, owner of King Paribahan and Firoz Hossain, president of District Bus Shromik Union said, "Engines of vehicles are getting damaged for using spurious lubricant and mobil. Farmers are also affected, as they use it in their water pumps for irrigation," he added.
A water pump owner Abu Taleb of Malunchi village in Pabna sadar upazila said, his pump often gets damaged for using adulterated lubricant.
"The law-enforcers are reluctant to take any action against the syndicate manufacturing the adulterated lubricants," he lamented.
According to the sources the target group of the dishonest traders is the illiterate farmers in the district as they need a good amount of mobil and lubricants for use in their water pumps.
A litre of adulterated lubricant is being sold at Tk 110 to 120 in the market while the pure lubricant costs Tk 260 to 300 and mobil is being sold at Tk 200 to 250 in the market against pure mobil which costs Tk 400 to 450.
The syndicate sells the adulterated lubricant and mobil in packets using the labels of famous companies to deceive the customers. Sources said,
they use a chemical after filtering the lubricant and mobil to give them a fresh look.
Locals alleged that the law enforcers cannot touch them as the devious traders have forged an unholy alliance with them in exchange of a good deal of money.
