Allegation of HSC results rigging comes up

OUR CORRESPONDENT
CHATTOGRAM, Dec 28: A result-tampering allegation against a high official of the Chattogram Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has given birth to controversy.
Accusations have been levelled against Narayan Chandra Nath, former controller of examinations and incumbent secretary of the board.
The controversy surrounds the attainment of GPA-5 by Mr Nath's son, Nakshatra Dev Nath, in the recently published HSC results through "rigging".
The controversy deepens as Nakshatra reportedly did not score a GPA-5 in the HSC examination but was allegedly given the top grade through fraudulent means.
The accusation was made after Mr Nath's wife Banasri Nath filed a general diary with Panchlaish police station on December 04, claiming the re-examination application was not placed by them.
Moreover, another GD was filed by former chairman of the board Prof Abdul Alim on December 26 regarding the same issue.
The issue takes a disturbing turn as it is revealed that a similar complaint of irregularities like negligence of duties was lodged against Mr Nath in 2021 following an enquiry.
Despite recommendations for action against Mr Nath in the investigation report, he was not penalised rather promoted to the position of secretary.
In the GD, Ms Banasri expressed concern over unauthorised applications for re-examination, hinting at possible mischief and a sinister agenda.
Questions arose as their son failed in two subjects during the pre-test examination, but in a striking contrast he obtained GPA-05 in the final results.
When approached, Chattogram Education Board chairman Professor Mustafa Kamrul Akhtar said he was unaware of the demand for re-examination of the results of Mr Nath's son.
Mr Nath denied the allegation of tampering the result of his son, saying: "There is no chance of tampering the result. Somebody applied for re-examining the papers without our knowledge…"
Santosh Kumar Chakma, officer-in-charge of Panchlaish police station, said: "The general diary was under investigation. We're yet to find anything mentionable during investigation."
