Aman farming exceeds target in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, Oct 19 (BSS): The farmers of the district have cultivated Aman on 1.5 per cent more land than the fixed target expecting a bumper production this season.

The crop is growing excellent under favourable climate condition, officials of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said.

Deputy Director, DAE, Narsingdi, Latafat Hossain said according to field level reporting collected by the department , a total of 42,180 hectares of land have been brought under Aman cultivation against the target of 41508 hectares in the district. He said the target fixed by the DAE exceeded by 672 hectares as a good number of farmers have engaged their all-out efforts to make the current Aman farming successful.

He said the Aman rice production is expected to exceed the fixed target of 102790 tonnes rice this season if there will be no climate risks.

The planted seedlings of Aman paddy have already grown well and the entire paddy fields turned greenery.

The growers are now busy nurturing the paddy fields with the hopes of getting desired production of the crops this season.

The Deputy Director said Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation distributed high quality Aman seeds among the farmers of the district at fair price.

He said availability of fertilizers, insecticides and other necessary agri-inputs has been ensured to the farmers of the district during the current Aman season.

Besides, different state-run commercial banks disbursed agriculture loan on easy term among the poor and marginal farmers.
