SYLHET, July 25: Police in the early hours Saturday arrested another accused in the sensational case for killing 13-year Samiul Alam Rajon. A joint team of DB and Jalalabad police station of the Sylhet Metropolitan police (SMP) picked Ayaj Ali, 40 up from his village Sheikhpara.
With this, the number of arrested stood at 13, police informed adding, Ayaj has been caught since he is one of the witness villagers to the gruesome torture and killing.
Besides, some of the accused, who had been on remand told about Ayaj's complicity with the incident, informed the case's investigation officer Suronjit Talukder, also Inspector of SMP DB.
Already accused Muhit Alam, Ali Haider, Moina Mia Chowkider, Dulal Mia and Nur Hossain gave confessional statement before the magistrate court. Besides, 2 more witnesses gave their statement, police informed.
Moina handed over Rajon to the others, who tortured him to death at Kumargaon bus stand area on July 8. Microbus driver Muhit Alam was caught by locals as the group was dumping the body nearby. His brother Kamrul managed police and flew to Saudi Arabia after 2 days. However, some Bangladeshis caught and handed him over to the lawmen there.
Two sub-Inspectors were suspended while the Officer (Investigation) was withdrawn on the basis of a probe report Friday. It was formed after the victim's family alleged police's inaction and misbehaviour when they went to the Jalalabad police station for filing complaint about the killing.
