RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, June 13: Around Tk 33.9 million (3.39-crore) audit objections have been found in the sales of undergraduate first-year admission test forms in three consecutive academic years of Rajshahi University (RU).

Many teachers and students have complained of irregularities and corruption as the RU did not provide a complete account of income and expenditure.

According to the annual income-expenditure report, 0.61 million (6.17 lakh) initial applications were submitted for the admission examinations for the 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23 academic years.

With the fee of Tk 55 per application, the income was Tk 33.9 million (3.39-crore), but this money is not shown in the audit report.

Rajshahi University earns Tk 200 million to 250 million (20 to 25 crore) every year from the sales of forms. However, the administration does not publish a full report on the income and expenditure of that money.

The RU administration is only disclosing the income of the final application without including the initial application amount in the annual report.

Although 60 per cent of the income is said to be spent on examination, the calculation of how much money is spent on any sector has not been disclosed.

Many teachers and students are complaining about corruption and irregularities.

Many of the teachers believe that there has been corruption in the income of the admissions test.

Seeking anonymity, a RU teacher said, "When Tk 55 is multiplied by two lakh, three lakh students, the money increases a lot. And when that account is not shown, a doubt raises that there is scope for corruption or irregularities."

Another senior teacher said, "Every income of the university should be included in the annual report, but why was the income of the initial application not included? I think the administration should have an answer."

RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Sultan-ul-Islam said, "The accounts department and ICT department should clearly inform the total account of income and expenditure. How much money was received for the initial application, and in which sector was it spent? There is no hiding place here. If there is any kind of error, it will be investigated, and action will be taken."

In three consecutive academic years, the final application shows an income calculation of Tk 1000/1200, but the initial application has no calculation of Tk 55.
