Aus farming going on in full swing in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, July 7: Transplantation of Aus seedlings is going on in full swing in four upazilas of Chuadanga district and will continue till first week of Bengali month Sraban.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 26,680 hectares of land have been brought under Aus cultivation with a production target of 80040 metric tonnes paddy this season.
Of them 9050 hectares of land have been brought under Aus cultivation in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 3550 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 9000 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 5080 hectares of land in Jibannagar upazila.
The farmers of the district are passing busy times and preparing their land for transplanting Aus paddy with plough, tractor and power tiller. About 2026 shallow tubewells and 90 deep tubewells are being used for the irrigation due to lack of sufficient rainfall .
To make the Aus cultivation a success DAE Chuadanga provided training among the farmers on using of Guti Urea. Bangladesh Krishi Bank and non -government organisations (NGOs) have distributed short term loan among the farmers in the district.
