Aus paddy farming going on in Sylhet division

SYLHET, June 05: A good number of farmers in all the four districts of Sylhet division are busy growing Aus paddy during the ongoing Kharif-1 season. The seedbed target of 8,828 hectares has already been surpassed with 9,407 hectares, an official informed recently.

The official said so far 100,269 hectares of land have already been brought under the paddy farming, which is about 57 per cent of the season's target.

The area includes 29,864 hectares in Sylhet, 33,450 hectares in Moulvibazar, 25,505 hectares in Habiganj and 11,450 hectares in Sunamganj district.

Md Altabur Rahman, additional director of DAE, Sylhet division, said incentive disbursement among the listed poor farmers for Aus cultivation was completed weeks ago.

The government sanctioned Tk 527,17,500 for the poor Aus growers.

Under the special incentive programme, 33,000 bighas of land are being cultivated against the last year's 25,700 bighas. It includes 10,000 bighas in each of Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts and 3000 bighas in Sunamganj district.
