Auto-rickshaw driver murdered in Gazipur

A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was chopped to death by hijackers in Nilerpara area in Gazipur city on Monday midnight. The victim was identified as Monir Hossain, 35. Locals said a gang of 5-6 hijackers hired the auto-rickshaw in the guise of passengers at Rajbari in the city around 12:05am and tried to snatch the three-wheeler when it reached Nilerpara area. The muggers chopped driver Monir indiscriminately with sharp weapons as he resisted the hijackers, leaving him dead on the spot. Later, local people caught two of the suspected muggers – Rafiqul and Rubel – while they were trying to flee with the auto-rickshaw, and handed them over to police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital for autopsy, according to UNB.
