RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Mar 1: Leaders and activists of Progressive Students Alliance (PTA), a union of left-leaning student organisation, Rajshahi University (RU) unit, today formed a human chain in front of the central library in protest of the savage killing of engineer and prominent blogger Avijit Roy, known for speaking out for secular freedom.
Conducting by Chhatra Federation university unit general secretary Jarif Muhib Ayon the programme was addressed by Federation president Faruque Emon, Socialist Student Font (SSF) president Sohrab Hossain, Biplobi Chhatra Moitri vice president Mithun Roy and Socialist Student Font finance secretary Tasnova Tahrin Antora.
Speakers in the human chain strongly protested the brutal murder and expressed deep concern about the safety of the progressive minded people.
They alleged that prominent writer Humayan Azad, blogger Rajib Haider and RU Professor Shafiqul Islam Lilon were also killed in the same way and the killers of Avijit hailed from the same group.
Speakers also demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and exemplary punishment to them.
