Badiyakhali rail station dev work begins, finally

GAIBANDHA, May 13: Development work on Badiyakhali railway station in the district has finally started to boost quality passenger services.
The development came after The Financial Express published a news report headlined 'British-era Badiyakhali railway station lies uncared for' on February 5 this year.
The Ministry of Railways has allocated Tk 2.7 million for the development work of Badiyakhali railway station, according to official sources. The development work began on Sunday with the inauguration of the roofing work for the passenger restrooms in the railway station. The welding work was inaugurated by Kazi Abdul Khalek, convener of Intercity Dolanchampa Express Train Break Implementation Council.
Adivasi-Bengali Solidarity Council leader Golam Rabbani Musa, Ward-5 member Noor Alam of Badiyakhali Union, development work contractor Mosharf Hossain and local elites Tajul Islam and Hossain Ahmed Siddiqui were present on the occasion.
The contractor has said that Tk 2.7 million has been allocated for the development work of Badiyakhali railway station.
This allocation will be spent on construction of new roof of the building, development of platform, construction of new plinth and septic tank and ancillary work, he adds.
Kazi Abdul Khalek, convener of the Intercity Dolanchampa Express Train Stoppage Implementation Council, has said that due to the long public agitation, the train stops at Badiyakhali station.
From January 2023 to February this year, the Bangladesh Railways has earned about Tk 1.1 million by selling tickets.
If all trains stop here, commuters will be benefitted and the railways department will get more revenue, he adds.
Mr Khalek has urged the railway authorities to increase the allocation for the overall development of the station.
