Bamboo bridge on Boral River mounts sufferings of Pabna people

PABNA, Sept 17: Temporary bamboo bridge on Boral River renders serious transport setback to thousands commuters from last three years at Modutosh union under Vangura upazila of Pabna district.

Every year, locals build a bamboo bridge at their own cost but monsoon hits severely the bridge. It's construction frequently become burden for the people.

We seek immediate step to ensure proper initiative to make concrete bridge over the River but don't get any legal response from the authority concern at all, demand victim Rahim Uddin,45, under the upazila.

More than 40000 people including schools, madrashas, collages going students and patients of Dahpapar, Gozarmara, Nonanagar, Shahnagar villages under Vangura upazila and Jaborkhol, Paikpara, Charpapar, Mathurapur, Pelanpur and Jaleswar villages under Chatmohor upazila of the district are the worst suffers due to lack of permanent bridge over the Boral River, said upazila chairman of Modutosh union Parishad Abdur Rashid.

In a recent visit the correspondent found people of the agri-based region are using a bamboo bridge to cross the river to go to their destinations. The students are making gathering on the bridge in fear of collapse.

The bridge is turning risky day by day due to use by a large number of people. The people who attend offices regularly face great difficulty due to the lack of a bridge over the river.

A large number of farmers carrying agro-products facing problem every time while crossing the river over the bamboo bridge to go to the nearest market in Vandura and Chatmohor in order to sell their products," said Nazrul Islam, a farmer of Gozarmara village under Vandura upazila.

Water Development Board (WDB) Executive Engineer KM Jahurul Islam said their department is more interest to make concrete bridge to smooth communication system for the commuters but we have to take the positive response from the nation decision maker for this immense bridge.
