A Baul music event in Sherpur Sadar Upazila has allegedly been attacked, vandalised, and shut down, leaving locals in fear even two days after the incident, reports bdnews24.com.
The attack occurred at around 11:00 pm on Thursday at a Baul music gathering organised on a ground in Pakuria Union's Ganai Bharuapara village.
A video circulated on social media after the attack shows several young men using abusive language and smashing equipment used at the event.
The sudden attack stunned the audience and spread fear throughout the area.
When checked for information on Saturday, residents of Ganai Bharuapara and surrounding areas confirmed the vandalism at the Baul event but were unwilling to name the attackers.
The event organiser, Shamim Mia, has been left mentally distressed by the incident.
He told the news agency, "I was personally organising the Baul music event. Suddenly, a few people showed up, said no singing or music would be allowed here, and started vandalising things. The Baul music did not continue after that."
He added, "I initially intended to inform the Sadar Police Station immediately, but later I did not report the matter to them."
Several people also said the attack might have occurred due to a disagreement between two parties over the selection of guests for the event.
Sherpur Sadar Police chief (OC) Sohel Rana said, "No such news has reached police. No one has filed a complaint regarding this as of Saturday morning."
