B'baria, Gaibandha, Ctg road crashes kill five

A total of five persons were killed in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Gaibandha and Chattogram districts on Saturday and Friday night, reports BSS

In Brahmanbaria, two passengers of a CNG-run auto rickshaw were killed and another was injured after being hit by a drum truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bertala area under Sarail upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 55, son of late Abdul Khalek of Shonaisa village of the Sadar upazila, and Iqbal Hossain, 32, son of Ansar Ali of Subidpur village under Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district.

The accident occurred when a Sarail highway-bound drum truck from Ashuganj hit a standing CNG-run auto rickshaw in the area around 10am this morning, leaving CNG passenger Abdur Rahman dead on the spot and two passengers seriously injured, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khatihata Highway Police Station Akul Chandra Biswas said.

The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where Iqbal Hossain died while undergoing treatment.

Police seized the drum truck but its driver escaped, he said.

The bodies have been sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue for post-mortem, he added.

In Gaibandha, two youths were killed as their bike hit a roadside tree in Sundarganj upazila of the district on Friday evening.

The deceased were identified as Sazid Miah, 18, and Jewel Rana, 18, hailed from Rangpur district.

Police said the accident took place in Hannan Mour area of the upazila around 6.00 pm when the reckless bike hit a roadside tree, leaving its rider Sazid dead on the spot and Jewel injured critically.

Jewel died on the way to Sundaganj Upazila Health Complex.

Officer-in-Charge of Sundarganj Police Station Azmiruzzaman confirmed the matter.

In Chattogram, One young man was killed in a road accident at Mekhol area under Hathazari upazila in Chattogram on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Md Hasan Tarek, 24, son of Md Ali of the Mekhol area under Hathazari.

Locals said one speeding pick-up van hit him at the back side when he was going to work at Mekhol area under Hathazari upazila in Chattogram causing his injury. Locals sent him to the Hathazari Health cvomplex, but duty doctors declared him dead after reaching the health complex.

A case was already been filed in this connection. But, police yet to seize the pick up till filling this report at 6 pm on Saturday.
