NILPHAMARI, July 7: Bell metal and brass cottage industry in Gomnati Union parishad of Domar upazila in Nilphamari district is gradually perishing.
Abdur Rahman one brass cottage industry owner of Gomnati union parishad said due to non availability of raw materials and ever decreasing demand of the utensils, the industry is on the verge of extinction. Household utensils made in those cottage industries were used in almost every household in the country irrespective of rich and poor.
The artisans used to make almost all kinds of household utensils like brass glasses, plates, pitchers, dishes, spoons, flower vases, toys and so on. At present only 10 to 12 families are engaged in their ancestral business but others have abandoned the profession and joined other jobs to earn their livelihood.
