Betanir Padma Beel in Rangpur possesses a bewitching beauty

RANGPUR, Oct 06: 'Betanir Padma Beel', a lotus water body- in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur district presents a quite mesmerising beauty to the beholders.

Visitors get enchanted to enjoy the aesthetic loveliness of the beel (water body) bestowed by nature.

'Betanir Padma beel' is located very close to the Rangpur-Kurigram highway on the border of Balapara and Shahidbag unions in Kaunia upazila.

Located just 16 kilometres off the Rangpur city, this water body is popularly known as 'Betanir Padma Beel'.

During a recent visit, the FE correspondent found the waterbody adorned with red, white and pink lotus flowers. Numerous lotus flowers are spread around. The sight of flowers swaying in the wind is magnificent.

Ashraful, a local resident, told the FE, "Every year, lotuses grow naturally in most of the parts of the beel. Flower lovers come here from distant areas to enjoy the attraction of the waterbody."

Some locals said, every day, visitors come with friends and family to enjoy the beauty of Padma beel. Everyone enjoys the beauty of the beel and captures it on camera. From the Bengali month of Ashar to the month of Kartik, lotus flowers bloom in the beel.

Afia Haq Fariha and Hamim Yeasir, residents of Rangpur city who came to enjoy the beauty of the Padma Beel, told The Financial Express, "The entire beel is replete with red, pink and white lotus flowers. This is a wonderful creation of the almighty, which makes anyone's heart fascinated when they behold it."

According to locals, in the morning, the Padma Beel looks like a bed of beauty. Many lotus flowers bloom.

In addition to lotus flowers, this waterbody resounds with the calls of white herons and ducks and chirping of various birds.

Visitors throng every day to see the lotuses and the beauty of the waterbody. Meanwhile, some local children and teenagers are also making extra income by selling lotus flowers from the waterbody to the visitors.

Tanisha and Rimjhim, two local children, sell lotuses for around Tk200 to Tk 300 every day. When flowers bloom, their day becomes better. It is convenient to buy necessary things with the money.

Locals said it is necessary to take a plan to preserve the beauty of the Padma Beel. They also made an appeal to the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to make 'Betanir Padma Beel' a complete tourist spot with required facilities.
