BMDA providing water for Nilphamari Boro farmers

NILPHAMARI, Mar 16: Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) is supplying irrigation water to the Boro farmers of Nilphamari district by using deep tubewells. This year BMDA providing irrigation water to 9500 farmers of the district to provide irrigation to 4500 hectares of Boro farmland.
When contacted Zonal Officer of BMDA Nilphamari Assistant Engineer Alamgir Md. Ruhul Islam said per hour irrigation cost is Tk 100 within one hour one hectare of farmland would be irrigated. Sources said all the deep tubewells of BMDA are connected with electricity and out of 214 deep tubewells 179 are being run by using prepaid meter.
One farmer of Khogsabari Union parishad of sadar upazila Mahbubar Rahman said he is cultivating Boro in one acre of land by using BMDA provided irrigation water and his irrigation cost would be between Tk 700 to 1000 in the entire farmland as he would have to irrigate four to five times in the cropland.
