NARAIL, Oct 14: A traditional boat race organised by Arunima Resort Golf Club at Panipara in Kalia upazila of Narail was held on Modhumoti River on Friday afternoon.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon was present in the boat race as the chief guest while Advocate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, MP, Director of tourism board Nikhil Ranjan Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Narail Mohammad Emdadul Haque Chaudhury, Superintendent of Police Sarder Raquibul Islam, Chairman of Arunima Resort Golf Club Khobir Uddin Ahmed were, among others, present on the occasion.
Kaila upazila chairman Khan Shamim Rahman presided over the function.
The boat race was started at Suktail Ghat which ended at Panipara. A total of eight boats from different places of Narail, Gopalganj, Madaripur and Khulna districts were participated in the boat race.
Hundreds of people including women and children were gathered in the two sides of the river to see the attractive boat race.
Besides, a 'Lathi Khela' and cultural function were held in the Arunima Resort Golf Club premises.Renowned singer Nokul Kumar Biswas was singing his popular songs in the cultural function
Ownership of Chaudhury Manjurul Alam's boat of Tungipara upazila in Gopalganj and Nalini Kumer Biswas's boat of Madaripur jointly won the first prize while Jalilpar's boat of Moksedpur upazila in Gopalganj took place the second position.
Thousands of people enjoyed the boat race, traditional 'Lathi Khela' and cultural function.
