Body of mother who jumps into Brahmaputra River to save son recovered

MYMENSINGH, Sept 23 (UNB): The body of a mother, who jumped into the Brahmaputra River to save her son on Friday, was recovered from the river around 17 hours in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh.
The deceased Rimi Anjuman, 35, was wife of Nazmul Haq Sabuj at Jugirghat village under Kawrayed union of Sreepur upazila in the district.
Saiful Islam, leader of Mymensingh Fire Service and Civil Defence department, said their divers recovered the body from the river under a bridge at 11am.
Rimi along with her family's five other members including three-year-old son Saad took a boat trip in the river on Friday afternoon, he said. Saad accidently fell off the boat while the mother also jumped into the river to save him, he added.
Noticing this, their relative Al Amin, who was also on the boat, jumped into the river to save them and managed to rescue Saad but Rimi went missing, the fire service officer said.
Being informed, divers from the district headquarters conducted operations to trace her but failed due to darkness and inclement weather, he said
The divers again on Saturday morning launched rescue operation and recovered the body.
Faruq Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Gofargaon police station, said the body was handed over to the family without autopsy upon their request.
