Bogra apiarists make good profit

BOGRA, Jan 16: A good number of beekeepers from different villages of the district are making good profit from the sale of honey this season.
The price of their produced fresh honey is being sold high rate compared to previous year, said Chan Mia of Sadar upazila. People who are engaged with the profession are now self-reliant, he added.
According to the local office of the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry Corporation (BSCIC), people are provided short-term training courses on beekeeping so that they could attained solvency.
In a recent visit this correspondent found each kg of honey is being sold at Tk 200 to Tk 250 in the retail market, while the wholesale rate is Tk 180 to Tk 190.
Apiarists of the district claimed that they are not getting a market price of their produce. They want government's intervention to mitigate the problem.
President of the Bogra Chamber of Commerce and Industries urged the authority concerned to expand their support to the bee keepers so that they could produce quality honey without any hassle.
