Bogra eyes good coriander yield

BOGRA, Jan 30: Coriander cultivators of the district are expecting a good output this season amid a favourable weather condition.
The growers are now busy taking care of the cropland to get a satisfactory production, said farmer Ataur Rahman of Dupchanchia upazila. He further said farmers are optimistic of getting a bumper production.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) the crop is being grown across the districts under the strong support from the department. The DAE provided all necessary inputs to the cultivators.
Farmers' sources said dense fog may boost the yield this season.
"I have brought over 0.05 acre of land under the spice cultivation this season spending Tk 2,300," said farmer Masudur Rahman of Kahaloo upazila. He said, "I am expecting to make a profit of over Tk 23,000."
Farmer can achieve more than 5.0 maunds of output from a bigha of land if the weather condition remains favourable till the harvesting period. Each maund of the crop is being sold at Tk 6,000 to Tk 7,000 in the retail markets.
Deputy Director of DAE Protul Chandra Saker said, "We have taken an initiative to bring more cropland under the spice cultivation in all the 12 upazilas of the district. Peasants also show more interest to enhance the farming grow the crop."
