Bogura cultivators expect good arum production this season

BOGURA, May 04: Grassroots growers in the district are expecting an abundant arum production this season.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), arum is growing on 500 hectares of land this season with the production target of over 400 tonnes.
Some DAE officials said many farmers are showing their interest in growing arum for high market price.
Per kg arum is selling at Tk 50 to Tk 60 in the local market this year against Tk 20 to Tk 25 production cost.
Trader Ruhul Amin of Sadar upazila said locally-produced arum is now sent to other districts for high demand.
"I have cultivated arum on 32 decimals of land this season spending Tk 8,000", said farmer Asim Uddin of Shibganj upazila.
He said, "I am expecting to start harvesting the vegetable from next month."
The grower further said most of the arum farmers in the district get a good production every year.
It is easy to produce and requires low cost but ensures a healthy return, he added.
