Boro cultivation gets a boost in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Mar 1 (BSS): Plantation of Boro seedlings has been getting momentum in five upazilas of the district during the current season amid much enthusiasm of the farmers after harvesting potato.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 71,517 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation with the production target of 2,92,249 tonnes of rice.

Deputy Director of DAE Azhar Ali Mandol said that special initiatives have been taken for cultivating hybrid variety of Boro paddy for producing a record quantity of paddy in the district.

Of the total 8,829 hectares of land would be brought under Hybrid variety and 52,688 hectares under Upshy varieties.

Deputy Director said there is no shortage of Boro seedlings and others agri-inputs in the district. In the meantime, farmers of the district have already cultivated 50 percent of the targeted land. Besides, DAE provided training to the farmers for adopting modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seeds etc. About 15,000 farmers of the district were imparted with necessary training.
