CHUADANGA, Jan 19: Transplantation of Boro paddy has begun in full swing in four upazilas of Chuadanga district and will continue till last week of February.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said a total of 36,714 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation with a production target of 1,43,184.6 metric tonnes paddy this year.
Of them 6600 hectares of land have been brought under Boro cultivation in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 15050 hectares in Alamdanga Upazila, 8839 hectares in Damurhuda Upazila and 6225 hectares in Jibannagar Upazila.
The farmers of the district are passing their busy times and preparing their land for transplanting Boro paddy with plough, tractor and power tiller. They are planting Upshi and hybrid Boro paddy on their land. For the Boro farming a total of 3526 shallow tubewells and 95 deep tubewells are being used for irrigation.
To make the Boro cultivation a success DAE Chuadanga has provided training among the farmers on using urea. Bangladesh Krishi Bank of Upazila and district branch, many non-government organisations (NGOs) has distributed short term loan among the farmers in the district.
650 blankets distributed
A BSS report says: Shahjalal Islami Bank and Janata Bank Ltd. in Chuadanga distributed 650 pieces of blankets by holding separate functions among the poor and cold-stricken people here recently.
Local MP Solaiman Haque Joarder distributed the blankets as chief guest in both the functions of the banks.
Of the total blankets, Shahjalal Islamic bank, Chuadanga branch distributed 450 pieces of blankets holding a function at the premises of the local branch. Manager of the local branch Saiful Islam was in the chair. Local BCCI president Yakub Hossain Mallik and former president Habibur Rahman Lablu, among others, were present on the occasion.
Janata bank, Chuadanga branch, distributed 200 blankets through a function held at the local BCCI auditorium. Birendra Chandra Tarafdar, AGM, Janata bank, Chuadanga region was in the chair.
