GAIBANDHA, Jun 19 (BSS): Harvesting of Boro paddy was completed in seven upazilas of the district during the current season with much enthusiasm to the farmers.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said farmers here this year cultivated the paddy on a total of 1, 25,325 hectares of land with the production target of 5,04, 425 tonnes of rice.
Of the total, some 19,630 hectares were brought under the cultivation programme in Sadar upazila, 14,925 in Sadullapur, 12,775 in Palashbari, 30,550 in Gobindaganj, 24,100 in Sundarganj, 15,050 in Shaghata and 8,295 in Fulchhari upazila.
Farmers of the district got their desired production of the paddy this year as at least 22-24 maunds of paddy was produced in a bigha of land.
Favorable climatic condition, proper distribution of high quality seeds of BADC and BMDA and timely supply of electricity, fertilisers and other agri inputs to the growers were the main reasons behind the desired production, said the growers.
While visiting some areas of the district the correspondent found that many of the farmers had transplanted pariza paddy, an indigenous variety, on the land just after cutting early varieties of Boro paddy to get additional crop during the middle period of Boro and Aman season.
The growers and their family members are so much busy in nurturing the paddy filed as the suggestions of the field level agri officials of DAE and RDRS Bangladesh to get desired yield.
Talking to the BSS DAE deputy director Mir Abdur Razzak said the farmers were taking preparations to farm Aman paddy through making their seedbeds for growing healthy seedlings.
