PANCHAGARH, May 14 (BSS): Harvesting of Boro paddy has started in all the five upazilas of the district during this season.
The farmers of the area are happy as they have a bumper production of Boro paddy this year.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said Boro paddy was cultivated on 46,500 hectares of land in the district with a production target of 2, 50, 000 tons of rice.
Farmers of Sadar upazila are busy for harvesting BR-28, BR-Hira and other varieties of Boro paddy amid much enthusiasm.
Farmers said that they are getting 25 to 30 maunds of paddy from one bigha of land. Meanwhile shortage of farm labourers is seriously hampering harvest of paddy in some areas of the district this season.
Deputy Director of DAE Md. Ashraf Ali told the news agency that the department has supplied quality seeds, no shortage of fertilizers, no attack of pest, water supply was smooth and weather condition was good.
So the farmers expected bumper production of Boro paddy in this season.
