Boro procurement drive extended in Magura

MAGURA, Sept 18: Extension of the has made Magura food officials optimistic over achieving Boro rice procurement target this year.
Magura district food office sources said they started Boro rice procurement drive from May 1 . The procurement rate was Tk 30 per kg with a target of 4954 metric tones. In the initial stage the procurement was running in full swing. But in July and August the drive was facing setback. At that time the price of rice was high in the market. Though the procurement time was supposed to end on August 31, it was extended to September 30. Till August 30 the total procurement in the district was 3935 metric tonnes rice. After the extension of time rice procurement has taken a new turn as price of rice has fallen in the market. Now the millers are showing interest in supplying rice under government procurement . After extension the achievement has stood at 4351metric tonnes till September 18. Within September 30 the target will be fulfilled.
When contacted Magura district food controller Shelimul Azim said, rice procurement drive has taken a new turn with the extension of time. "Now we are hopeful or achieving Boro procurement target", he said.
