BRI 62 paddy cultivation proves successful in Nilphamari dist

NILPHAMARI, Oct 26: The expected production of zinc enriched paddy BRI 62 has been attained in Nilphamari district. The success was evident in the harvesting of the crop in the field days where DAE officials were present in different Union parishads across six upazillas of the district.

DAE sources said 62 demonstration plots were established among 200 zinc enriched paddy farmers of the district.

The paddy can be harvested within 92 days of its plantation and its production is 65 maunds (40 kg) per acre.

While contacted DD DAE Nilphamari Abdul Wajed said, "we initiated the project this year in this district and the initiative proved successful".

While contacted a farmer Obinash Chandra Roy of Itakhola UP of Sadar upazila said he cultivated the paddy in 30 decimal of land and produced 15 maunds of the crop.
