NILPHAMARI, Apr 5: The number of brick fields is flourishing in Nilphamari district.
This year 34 brick fields are making bricks in the district, out of which 24 are in Syedpur Upazila, four in Sadar Upazila, 3 in Jaldhaka Upazila, two in Domar Upazila and one in Kishorgonj Upazila.
Sources said, all brick fields are now using coal for burning brick according to Brick Burning Control Ordinance, 2004 as the owners are prohibited from using firewood.
Nearly a total of 45 million bricks are produced at an estimated price of Tk 400 million. DC office sources said, all the brick kilns are operating with proper licence from the government and they are also complying with environment laws.
Sources added, there is no energy efficient kiln in the district and it is observed that improving kiln efficiency in the brick making industry project of UNDP is still unknown to the brick field owners of Nilphamari.
