NILPHAMARI, Dec 31: Brickfields of Nilphamari district are suffering from non-availability of coal. There are as many as 43 brickfields in the district.
The nearest source of purchasing coal is Boropukuria coal mine at Fulbari of Dinjpur district where production of coal remained deadlocked for technical guilt. Sources said a brickfield needs 10 to 20 mt of coal according to its size and thereby nearly 0.5 million mt coal is needed in the district for the brickfields.
In all the brickfields of the district nearly 12000 labourers are employed and many of them are women. Sources added this huge manpower is needed as the bricks are being made manually and there is no auto system in making bricks in any brickfield in the district.
