Bridging police-people for curbing crimes stressed

RANGPUR, Apr 5 (BSS): Speakers at a joint workshop on community policing today stressed on bridging police and people on mutual trust and confidence to curb all sorts of social crimes in improving law and order situation.
Panchagarh Sadar Thana Police organised the workshop on 'Community Policing' at Panchagarh Circuit House in Panchagarh town under the Police Reform Programme- Phase-II being implemented by Bangladesh Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Government of Bangladesh (GoB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the UKaid through the Department for International Development (DFID) have been extending financial assistance in implementing the programme.
Superintendent of Police and Convener of District Community Policing Forum for Panchagarh Abul Kalam Azad attended the workshop as the chief guest with Officer-in-Charge of Panchagarh Sadar Thana Mominul Islam in the chair.
Additional Superintendent of Police for Panchagarh Deen Mohammad presented the main keynote paper narrating the goals and objectives of the joint workshop and the six-year term (2009-2015) Police Reform Programme- Phase-II.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Kazi Akhterul Alam, representative of 'Manob Kallyan Parishad' Mousumi Rahman, Panchagarh District Muktijoddha Commander Mirja Abul Kalam Dulal and President of District Importers-Exporters Association Mehedi Hassan Khan Babla addressed the meeting.
Convener of Panchagarh District Community Policing Forum Kimwar Hossain Bhanu, Panchagarh Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Zahidul Haque and Member of Panchagarh Pourashava unit of Community Policing Committee AK Dilkhusa Prodhan also spoke.
Fifty participants, including conveners and members of the Community Policing Committees of all 10 unions under Sadar Upazila and Panchagarh Pourashava, chairmen and members of the Union Parishads, NGO executives and members of police took part in the workshop.
