GAIBANDHA, Feb 26 (BSS): Speakers at a function here on Wednesday underscored the need for bringing the Dalit communities under the mainstream of the society to change their socio-economic condition to have a better nation.

"Over ten thousand people of Bashfore, Nunia, Dom, Hela, Rabidas and Patni under the low caste communities live in all the seven upazilas in the district and they are the victims of disparity, deprivation, torture and negligence due to their heredity and profession", they said.

They made the observations while addressing a discussion meeting on the rights of the low cast communities organised by Jana Uddyog, a social forum, at the office of a non government organisation Abalambon of the town.

Presided over by Rasesh Bashfore, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by member secretary of Jana Uddyog Probir Chakrabartee, Advocate Toufiqur Rahman Neon, development activist Abdus Salam, social worker Ahaduzzaman Rimu, and Roni Bashfore.

Most of the Dalit communities have no residence facilities to live and almost all their children cannot enter high school for study even and many of them cannot complete primary education due to economical crisis, they said.

In this context, the speakers sought cooperation of the government and the non-government organisations including the well-off section of the society so that they could live in the society properly like other people ensuring different facilities for them.
