NILPHAMARI, May 15: Briquette making mills are making briquettes by using rice husk in Nilphamari district. Briquettes are being used as substitute of firewood as fuel by a section of well-to-do families as its price is a bit higher than firewood.
At present a maund (40kg) of briquette is being sold in the markets at a price of Tk. 300 whereas the price of one maund of firewood is Tk. 225.  However as the use of briquette is increasing gradually, sale of firewood is decreasing as such. Sources said at a result destruction of trees would decrease which would also culminate in the preservation of environment.
While contacted Alim Uddin a briquette mill owner of BSCIC industrial estate at Syedpur said he sells one maund of briquette at a price of Tk. 300 and he produces 100 maund of briquette per day.
