Brother, sister killed by sibling in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Apr 6 (BSS): A younger brother has reportedly killed his brother and sister and injured four other family members at Kadirgonj area in Rajshahi city as a sequel to a land-related enmity in early hours today.

Police arrested the alleged killer Tariqul Islam, son of Afsar Uddin, as the neighbours caught him red-handed and handed him over to police after mass-beating.

The deceased were identified as Sadequl Islam, 50, and his sister Akhter Jahan Kolpona, 45.

Another brother Monirul Islam, 46, his daughter Umme Kulsum, 20, son Niamat Uddin, 18, and Sadequl's wife Jahanara Begum, 45, were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with grievous injuries.

Quoting locals Alamgir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Boalia Model Police Station, said a quarrel had been going on among the family members for long over land related problems.

On the fateful night around 3.30 am, Tariqul Islam, armed with lethal weapons, called them out from their respective rooms and struck them one after another indiscriminately. Sadequl Islam and Kolpona succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
