BOGRA, July 2: Farmers of 12 upazilas of the district are very much optimistic of a bumper arum production during the current season, particularly in the vast char area.
Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said that the farmers have cultivated arum on around 45,000 hectares of land against the target of 40,000 hectares fixed by DAE.
The marginal arum growers said, being easy and low production cost the farmers are showing more interest for last five years.
Deputy Director of DAE Chandi Das said, "Timely plantation of arum is considered as a positive sign for attaining bumper production of the cash crop. The farmers of the district are showing more interest in arum cultivation in their own cropland as this vegetable is more profitable for them." he added.
A farmer, Salam Hossain of Dehor village under Kahaloo upazila told this correspondent that DAE has arranged a training programme for arum's growers from the month of February to March as how to grow more arum production without high investment.
Dulal, son of Hannu Dawakola village under sadar upazila said, "I have brought 0.25 acres of land under arum cultivation in this season borrowing Tk 5, 000 from Rajshahi Krisi Unnoyon Bank and I expect Tk 20, 000 as profit from the cropland if the weather condition remains favourable."
