Roving Correspondent | June 27, 2018 00:00:00

PABNA, June 26: Groundnut cultivators of Sujanagar upazila are happy over a bumper production of their produce.

The growers are also delighted as they are also getting fair prices this season.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said over 650 hectares of land were brought under the farming of groundnut.

In a recent visit in Satbaria, Manikhat, Vaira, Nazirganj and Sagorkandi unions this correspondent found growers were busy harvesting of the crop.

"I have cultivated groundnut on five bighas of land spending Tk 30,000 this season. I got 48 maunds of yield," said Billal Hossain of Gopalpur village.

Each maund of crop is being sold at Tk 2,400 to Tk 2,500 in the retail market while the wholesale rate is Tk 2,200 to Tk 2,300.

The price may rise further, growers said.

Hatem Ali of Kamarhat village said farmers spend around Tk 6,000 to Tk 7,000 to grow the item on a bigha of land.

Favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-input helped boost yield, said upazila agriculture officer of DAE Moinul Sarker.
