NILPAHAMARI, Nov 13: Despite many hurdles including flood and attack of insect in some paddy fields, a bumper production of transplanted Aman is expected in Nilphamari district this year.
Attack of insect was relatively limited as only five Union Parishads of two upazilas of Jaldhaka and Dimla were affected by flood but the overall climate was favourable for Aman cultivation. Electricity supply was as expected and availability of fertiliser and diesel was also normal.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said Aman was cultivated in 101016 hectares of land in the district in this season to produce more than four lakh metric tonnes of paddy.
While contacted Wajed Ali, an Aman farmer of Gomanti UP of Domar upazila said he cultivated high yield variety Aman in two acres of land and he is expecting about 120 maunds of paddy in his farmland. The production of Aman is expected to be same across all the six upazilas of the district.
