GAIBANDHA, Jan 26 (BSS): Speakers at a function here have urged the candidates and their workers to abide by the electoral code of conducts to ensure a peaceful atmosphere on the eve of elections to Gobindaganj Municipality.

The urge was made at a view exchange meeting organised by district election office at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) here on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief guest and Superintendent of Police (SP) Towhidul Islam was present as the special guest.

District Election Officer and Returning Officer Abdul Mottalib presided over the meeting.

The DC said the mobile courts led by executive magistrates will be patrolling the municipality area during the pre-and-post election period.

The executive magistrates could hand down instant judgment against the candidates including their workers if any irregularities on electoral code of conducts were found by the courts, the DC also said.

The three-tier security measures in cooperation with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police have been taken to hold the by-elections in a free, fair and neutral way, said SP Muhammad Towhidul Islam.
