Call to boost fish output to meet nutritional needs

RANGPUR, Jun 5 (BSS): Speakers at a fish fry release ceremony here have stressed for boosting fish production through proper utilisation of all existing water bodies to meet nutritional demand and attain self-reliance by cutting poverty.

They were addressing the ceremony organised by Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) to release fish fries into the huge Bhangni water body of the city corporation under its Ward No-01 on Wednesday afternoon.

Panel Mayor of RCC Golam Kabir Kajol attended the ceremony as the chief guest and released fingerlings of different variety fishes with RCC Councilor Rafikul Islam (Ward No-01) in the chair.

RCC Councilor from reserved Ward Hafiza Khatun Panna, Councilors Ashek Ali (Ward No-03), Haradhon Chandra Roy (Ward No-04), Anwarul Islam (Ward No-10), Abdur Razzaque (Ward No-11) and Jahangir Alam Tota (Ward No-30) were present.

Convener of city unit of Jubo League ABM Sirajum Munir leases of the water body Abu Taher, Masud Rana, Nazrul Islam, Ruhul Amin, Mokhlesur Rahman and Abdul Jalil, local fishermen and elite also attended the ceremony.

The speakers narrated huge prospect of the fisheries sector and asked all concerned for boosting fish production and conserving water bodies side by side protecting natural breeding grounds and stopping catch of smaller fishes.

They emphasised the essence of preserving the extinct and indigenous fish species to increase fish production for achieving economic self-reliance by the common people including fishermen community besides meeting nutritional demands.

The chief guest asked for bringing all water bodies, ponds, tinny water bodies, beels, haors and flood plains under fish cultivation ensuring best use of the existing natural resources to boost fish production.

He put emphasis on transferring of the latest pisciculture technologies to the farmers, fishermen community and commoners for enhancing fish production to meet increasing protein demand side by side alleviating poverty to achieve self-reliance.
