Call to create social movement against food adulteration

GAIBANDHA, June 11 (BSS): Speakers at a function stressed the need for creating social movement in the society through active participation of all against the adulteration in food to save the lives.

"Emphasis should be given to make much awareness among the consumers and the traders so that they could abstain from taking and selling the adulterated food items to have a healthy nation", they said.

They made the comments while addressing a human chain at DB Road of the town today noon with the slogan "Khadyadrobbe Bhejal Protirodh Kori, Sustha Sabol Jati Gari".

Advocacy unit of RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed non government organisation, organised the human chain under its core programme with the financial support of Church of Sweden.

It was addressed, among others, by programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman, project coordinator of School Feeding Programme Ikbal Hossain, senior development officer Abdur Rashid and senior technical officer Roxim Barua.

A section of dishonest traders are making brisk business by selling formalin and carbide mixed fruits like mango, black berry, grape, apple, pine apple, litchi and date including tomato and fishes to the customers randomly, the speakers said.

Due to taking poison mixed fruits, vegetables and fishes the people particularly the children were being affected with long and short term bad impacts in their bodies, they added.

In this context, they demanded of the government to take pragmatic measures and conduct mobile courts regularly in a bid to check the selling adulterated food items to the customers considering public health.
