Call to improve maternal, child health services

JOYPURHAT, Mar 6 (BSS): Importance should be given on ensuring maternal and child healthcare facilities especially in rural areas, prevention of early marriage and women empowerment, speakers at a day-long workshop said on Wednesday.

They viewed that media men can play a vital role for creating mass awareness about the issues.

They were addressing the workshop, organised by District Family Planning Department, for local journalists of print and electronic media at the conference room of Joypurhat Nursing Institution.

The speakers also emphasized on the need for concerted efforts of physicians and field-level officials of the departments for safe delivery at hospitals, community clinics or health sub-centers for ensuring safe motherhood as well as bringing maternal and infant mortality rates down.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammod Yeasin addressed the workshop as chief guest with Deputy Director of District Family Planning Department Dr Abu Naser M Nurul Islam Chowdhury in the chair.

Assistant Director of Family Planning Directorate, Dhaka Rakon Uddin, Sadar upazila health and family planning officer and secretary BMA, local unit Dr Zobayer Galib, Medical Officer Dr Shahid Uddin and Family Planning Officer of Joypurhat Sadar upazila Mahfuza Khanam also addressed the workshop, among others.
