GAIBANDHA, Oct 25 (BSS): Speakers at a function here called for informing the new generation the real history of the Liberation War.
They made the call while addressing a function held on the premises of Bijoy Stambho at Daldalia village under Bonarpara union of Saghata upazila in the district on Monday.
On October 24, 1971, 12 freedom fighters were martyred in a face-to-face fight with the Pakistani occupation forces at Daldalia village near Trimohinighat of the district.
To keep the Liberation War and the names of the martyred freedom fighters memorable to the future generations, a discussion meeting was held there at the arrangement of October 24 Celebration Committee.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Oliur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest and additional police super Ibne Mizan spoke at the function as the special guest on behalf of police super Muhammad Towhidul Islam.
Presided over by UNO Sarder Mostafa Shaheen, the function was also addressed, among others, by valiant freedom fighter and former deputy commander Goutam Chandra Modok, heroic freedom fighters Nazmul Huda Dudu, Jasim Uddin Mondal, Azgar Ali, Azahar Ali, Abdul Jabbar and officer-in-charge of Saghata Thana Matiur Rahman.
The freedom fighters in their speeches said they participated in the Liberation War at the clarion call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu they won the fight after nine months battle.
Earlier, former deputy commander Goutam Chandra Modok who participated in face -to -face fight with the Pak occupation forces at the village on October 24 in 1971 described the story how they fought and won on that day.
In that battle, as many as 27 Pak forces were also killed and 12 freedom fighters were martyred, he added.
A large number of people from all walks of life attended the programme that included placing floral wreaths at the Bijoy Stambho, doa, milad mahfil and tabarak distribution.
